BIO
Willem van der Valk is the Group Information Security Officer (GISO) at Achmea. In this role he is responsible for continuous development to maintain their cyber maturity level and implement new (digital) security capabilities that align with Achmea’s digital transformation, changing (cloud) technology, and new agile/DevOps ways of working. His biggest achievement has been setting up an ambitious, Achmea-wide security objective and a global security program for all business units covering various topics relating to information security, IT security, and physical security.
Willem has always loved new technology and innovation. After an education in Industrial Engineering & Management Sciences at Groningen University, Willem spent 11.5 years in the cyber security team at Deloitte, where he was responsible for the security strategy and transformation team as well as the delivery of cyber security projects for large international clients.
Willem lives in Hilversum with his wife and three young children. On Fridays, you’ll find the whole family on the hockey field. Famous among his friends and colleagues for making bad puns, Willem likes to spend his free time reading and listening to podcasts about history and philosophy.
