About the session

Step into the world of DevOps with Kevin Boots as your guide and discover new ways to solve even your most difficult tech problems. Embark on an interactive journey and transform how you approach development – explore a whole new landscape, uncover fresh insights, and never look back!

DevOps has been a buzzword for a considerable period now, and it appears to have a lasting impact on the industry. However, there have been several interpretations and practices of the term, which can be both beneficial and detrimental.

On one hand, DevOps has introduced innovative practices such as platform engineering, which has revived the emphasis on engineering culture. Furthermore, it has helped to familiarize the community with critical concepts like Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Deployment (CD).

On the other hand, organizations that misunderstand the essential purpose of DevOps might implement practices that are contrary to the intended objectives. For instance, some companies might create a separate ‘DevOps’ team to handle code deployment, as was the case in the traditional Ops days. Such practices can be problematic and lead to confusion.

As professionals in the field, it is crucial to revisit the fundamentals of DevOps and identify the ideas, techniques, and behaviors that define it. During this session, we will establish a robust definition of DevOps and explore ways to introduce it to newcomers effectively. I will share valuable starting points that will assist organizations or individuals who are new to DevOps, CI, CD, and other related concepts. Consider this session as a DevOps theory code kata, which will enable you to refine your understanding of DevOps.
